Don Carlos Buell ![]() Major General Don Carlos Buell who fought in the Western Theater of the Civil War from 1861-1862 Major General Don Carlos Buell was a life-long military man and friend of George McClellan who fought at Shiloh and Corinth before being forced to retreat from Stevenson, Alabama to Louisville, Kentucky. During the battle of Perryville half of his 60,000 man Army of Ohio could not defeat 16,000 Rebels under the command of Leonadis Polk.
