William J. Hardee ![]() Commander, Central Army of Kentucky, Corps Commander, Army of Mississippi and Army of Tennesseee William Hardee was involved in the incident that began the Mexican-American War as a Draggoon lieutenant. He was a major in the 2nd Cavalry, commanded the Central Army of Kentucky, corps commander, Army of Mississippi and Army of Tennessee. He repeatedly refused high command.
