Irvin McDowell

Commander of Union forces at Bull Run, Irvin McDowell served as an independent commander until the formation of the Army of Virginia

Most closely associated with the two Union losses at Bull Run, Irvin McDowall commanded the Army of the Potomac at First Bull Run and a corps at Second Bull Run. Following the second loss, McDowell was assigned to various commands in the West during and after the Civil War
