Morse, inventor of the first commercially successful telegraph While many eletro-magnetic telegraphs were invented before Samuel Morse's, his was the first to receive widespread commericial acceptance for a number of reasons: it was significantly more durable than other telegraphs, he used transmission relay stations to solve the problem of long-distance transmission fade, and his Morse code was easy to learn.
