Green River Railroad Crossing, south of Munfordville, KY

Site of the battle of Munfordville, south of the Green River near the 1853 Louisville and Nashville railroad bridge

The Green River winds south of Munfordville (or Munford) south of town. Crossing the river from northwest to southeast, the tracks of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad mark the location of the battle. Union forces built a fort with redoubts south of the bridge following a Confederate raid. Braxton Bragg's Army of Tennessee slowed to capture the fort and its 5,000 occupants during the Confederate Invasion of Kentucky
