Isham Harris ![]() Civil War governor of Tennessee until 1862, Harris was at the Battle of Shiloh as aide to Sidney Johnston Governor and later, Senator from Tennessee, Isham Harris simply gave up the governorship of the state when Union troops took Nashville in 1862 (normally, an ousted governor would form a government-in-exile).
