From the city of Yorktown, VA on the York River, John Magruder's lines extend west to the Warwick River

John Magruder had most of the Union commander convinced they were facing a sizable opponent when they actually outnumbered him by a sizable margin. Magruder's Army of the Peninsula, with about 13,000 men halted the George McClellan's Army of the Potomac giving Joe Johnston the time he needed to move from the Rappahannock to Yorktown
